Sculpture

Hank Kim approaches essential questions of sculpture through his original character Super Baby. His sculptural world is not about mere technique nor mass appeal, but an exploration of how the medium of sculpture can reflect the conditions of human existence. The child-like figure with unbalanced limbs, simplified face, and exaggerated hands and feet distances itself from traditional heroic archetypes and instead resembles all of us. Materials such as resin, stainless steel, and chrome plating emphasize surface reflectivity and transform the work into a mirror-object that invites viewers to see their own reflection and realize that Super Baby stands not just as the artist’s self-portrait, but as a portrait of all of us.
