Painting
Hank Kim expands Super Baby, originally conceived in sculpture, into two-dimensional territory and opens a new phase of hybrid painting that combines traditional painterly qualities with digital sensibility. His canvases are not just flat surfaces for images, but multidimensional spaces where color, signs, and mythopoetic narratives converge. His palette recontextualizes Korea’s traditional obangsaek (five cardinal colors) to deliver an intense visual experience: red for vitality and passion, blue for contemplative depth, yellow for abundance and harmony, black and white for the cycle of life and death. Since the pandemic, rainbows have emerged as metaphors for healing and hope, while stars and planets act as mythic narratives of collective connection. Super Baby interweaves with these symbols to evoke both personal experience and the memory of our times.
